Gr. 10 History Info and Work

Hey!  Welcome to Semester 2 Grade 10 History.  This site will allow you to view topics covered over the semester as well as access important handouts and enrichment activities.  You simply log on to the school website and go to departments and then to Mr. Faragher.

Week of Feb. 6th

Intro to course and class expectations.  Main focus this week will be on life in Canada in the late 1800′s and early 1900′s.  We will use the text, scrapbooks, powerpoints, and Historica Minutes to help us grasp the atmosphere in Canada at this time.

Week of Feb. 13th

Happy Valentines’ Week!  This Week we will be looking at how World War I evolved.  We will look at the causes and specific battles.  As well, an analysis will be done regarding soldier motivation and consequences of enlistment.  Road to War, map of Europe 1914, Canada’s Role in WWI, Enlistment Activity, Trenches on the Web and Trench video will be the handouts for the week.

Week of Feb. 20th

Family Day knocked off Monday and we enjoyed the staff vs student hockey game on Friday, so a short week!  This week in class we used primary sources to focus on life as a soldier.  These sources included; Trench and Vimy Video, Power Points from Mr. Faragher’s trip to Europe, and text analysis.

Week of Feb. 27th

WWI Comic Life was completed on Monday, so that totals 3 pages.  Be sure to have your pages in one Comic Life Document. The focus was on Vimy again as well as battles, the Halifax Explsion, and conscription.  Test on WWI to be held next Thursday and review available on Tuesday.

Week of March 5th

Monday you were given a choice of evaluations: Trench Letter, WWI Assignment summary, or Propaganda Poster. This week we finalized WWI and held a test on Thursday.  As an enrichment we viewed the movie titled “The Lost Battalion.” March Break begins! Have fun!!!

Week of March 19th

Our unit on the 1920-30′s begins with a Historica handout/video and seatwork sheet on the 20′s.  Marks were updated and you now have 5 entries in total.  They are: 2 oral responses, WWI Quiz, WWI Assignment choice, and WWI note check.  Be sure to have all overdue work completed ASAP.  This week we continued with completion of 1920′s and 30′s work.  On Friday we viewed the DVD titled “The Sting” portraying life as a con man in the 1930′s.

Week of March 26th

Completed “The Sting” Activity and continued our Comic Life work by entering a 1920/30 version.  Viewed Group of Seven and Great Depression power points.  I hope the Literacy Test went well for everyone on Thursday!  Friday we worked on the 1920′s & 1930′s Enrichment package.

Week of April 2nd

This week we completed our 1920-30 Enrichment package.  As well we decided on Era Assignment choices.  Completion of the 20/30′s unit means its time to start up WWII.  Initial activities include the introduction of the Novel “Night” and a look at pre-WWII conditions in Canada and Europe.  

Week of April 9th

Short week again!  Completion of the Swing Kids video leads us into WWII.  Be sure to have your 1920/30′s enrichment package completed and handed in.  As well, you should be done your 1920/30′s assignment choice.  This week we will analyze how Hitler was able to pursue his goals for Germany.  Focus will also be placed on Dieppe and Canada on the Homefront.  Reading of Night will continue too.

Week of April 16th

Night reading is focused on, accompanied by clips from Schindler’s List movie.  We are now into WWII … war on the homefront …. important terms and personalities.  Mark tallies were completed with marks entered for reports. WWII Comic Life was worked on also.

Week of April 23rd

Period A worked on Soldier research in preparation for their seminar with the Penetang Probis Club on April 26th.  Period B helped with area clean up on April 25th.  We are looking at the mistreatment of Japanese Canadians following the attack on Pearl Harbor.  Canadians role in  Italy will be discussed on Friday.

Week of April 30th

Big thanks to my Period A Class for their participation at the Penetang Probus Club of Severn Sound.  See main page for details!  This week we will finalize WWII.  A close look at the final assaults in Italy and Normandy will be analyzed.  We are going to the internet room twice to complete WWII Power Point Presentations.  Final drafts will be shown and evaluated on Monday.  Get your WWII notes organized and ready for assessment.

Week of May 7th

View and evaluate Power Point presentations.  WWII test and Night Journals will be completed also.  We are then going to take one last look at the Holocaust and its relevance to today.

Week of May 14th

War is over, but now what?  A era of self promotion and distrust begins to to take shape internationally.  Nationally we experience mass development in technology and demographics, particularly with regards to the Baby Boom.  This week we will look at the Cold War and the effects it had on society in Canada.  Reminder to have Night Journals in by Wednesday.

Week of May 21s

Short week!  We will be completing handouts titled “Coming of Age” “Baby Boom” and “Competing Visions”  Utube views of Elvis and the Beatles will be featured too.  An analysis of the Avro Arrow will lead us into a summary video of the 1960′s!  Be sure not to miss the discussion on the iconic Cold War instructional video “Duck and Cover”.

Week of May 28th

This week will take a look at the mistreatment of Aboriginals via the Residential School legacy in Canada.  We will also look at the issues surrounding Quebec and Immigration in the 1960′s.  Be sure to finish the handout package titled “Canadian Development Regarding …..”  We will finalize the 60′s summary video and complete this era’s Comic Life.
