Former MSS student and acclaimed Metis artist Tim Mohan displayed his work titled “Wise Up” at the local Huronia Museum on the weekend.  The art pieces takes a strong look at the horrors of war within the creative cradle of Metis artistic symbols and characters.  Tim is the nephew of former Midland Veteran James Mohan who was tragically killed as a POW during the conflict in Hong Kong.  His passion for peace and awareness of the evils of war are most evident in all of his work and written reflections.  Midland Secondary students had the privilege of providing 12 poems for the exhibit.  The poems were put on display at the museum and placed on an artistic background for further effect.  On Friday the students who were able to attend recited their poems for the audience and received personalized artworks from Mr. Mohan.  Be sure to take the time to visit the Museum and take in the exhibit.

Guest Speaker Rev-Captain Charles Deogratias

19 10 2011

MSS Welcomes Rev-Captain Charles Degratias
The entire MSS school body were treated to an inspiring talk by Reverand Captain Charles Degratias of the Canadian Armed Forces.  The Reverand is a Rwanda genocide survivor who spent 20 years in a refugee camp. Most recently he has served 2 terms in Afghanistan and is soon departing for France to hold a ceremony for a  WWI soldier’s body which was just discovered and exhumed.  He spoke to the students in an entertaining an intriguing fashion about his life experiences and his “born to die” legacy in Rwanda.  He emphasized as Canadians our motto is “born to live” and that we should acheive what we want and embrace the challenges we face.  Rev-Captain Charles Degratias is a guest speaker MSS students will remember forever.  Pictured are students and staff who attended the Christian Community Breakfast earlier in the day where the Reverand spoke to local community members.
